Winka Dubbeldam

ed: What did you do last Sunday?

wd: I had brunch in the Soho house, in New York City, and then flew to London, where I am an external examiner at the Architectural Association.

ed: How important is fashion to you and what’s your favorite piece of clothing?

wd: I think Fashion and Architecture could or should be similar... fashion to me is a great fabric construction, which I love to analyse...my favorite is a coat by Martin Margiela, I mostly love all his constructs

ed: What book or film would you recommend and why?

wd: love the documentary by Andy Goldsworthy "Rivers and Tides"... it is an evolving art piece.

ed: You have the chance to initiate a cultural revolution. What will you do?

wd: No more ceiling heights below 3 meters...

ed: What is your favorite travel destination and what hotel / resort should everyone visit at least once in their lifetime?

wd: Mali is an amazing place with 2 of my favorite things; desert and mud architecture! Especially the Mali medieval architecture is great... Everyone should once go and stay in the palapas at the beach in Tulum, Mexico and watch the sea turtles come in...

ed: What was in your opinion the biggest ever faux pas in architecture/design/art/fashion?

wd: Post-Modernism

ed: Who has influenced you the most?

wd: Gilles Deleuze........a french philosopher......... his text on "the smooth and striated".........Deleuze's unusual metaphysics entails an equally atypical epistemology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epistemology), or what he calls a transformation of "the image of thought"... This results for me literary being inspired to transform his writing into spatial conditions........

ed: How would you define “cultural identity”

wd: A shared awareness between people... creating new ideas and resulting in innovative results

ed: When is an idea a “good” idea?

wd: Bergson said never to solve a problem, but to create the "right problem"; that is a good idea!

ed: And last but not least: you are entitled to a single question. What would you ask?

wd: What does Peter Greenaway think of women... [think : Drowning by numbers]???
